"In order to create four Compact Disc recordings in three years, Limon Wissmann Productions has used local and national companies for recording and packaging with mixed satisfaction. We were simply unprepared for the excellent quality we found at National Media Services in Front Royal, Virginia.

Our experience in producing 'An Evening With Buddy Holly featuring Robbie Limon' was top notch from the first day we entered the studio and began a relationship with Will Shenk, National Media's recording engineer. Will is personable, candid, analytic, and works tirelessly to give the artist more than he expects.

Our vision for this recording was to re-create what Buddy Holly and Norman Petty accomplished with the tools they possessed in 1957. Their pre-digital studio and their use of mic placements, jury-rigged echo chambers, and tape-based over-dubs resulted in a legacy of early rock and roll music. For our purposes, completing a Holly song in a few takes was never good enough; we had to get as close to the Holly original sound as possible.

Will Shenk has an incredible ear which proved crucial for listening to Holly's tracks and suggesting the ways 'that sound' could be duplicated. Did they use a pizzicato violin or a harp……what are the harmonies in that chorus segment…and how did they change the spatial imaging after the intro? Will includes so much more in his personal definition of 'recording engineer'. If an artist can articulate his objectives, we are confident that Will Shenk can achieve them in the studio.

Since our sessions in October 2007, we have heard other products from Will Shenk. Listen to National Media Services' Christmas CD for a broad mix of bluegrass, Gregorian-era choir, pop-rock, and solo acoustic vocal/guitar. All of these were captured and mastered with Will Shenk at the controls. It doesn't get any better than this!"
